Takeout event for 2021! Read on for details!
The Feast of Love, a FREE Christmas Day dinner, has been going strong since 1984, serving those alone for the holiday or without the means to afford a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Traditionally, volunteers from around Kent County have joined with First UM Church to prepare the meal, set the tables, serve the meal, and lead the celebration of the birth of Jesus. Birthday cake, music, and elves lifted our spirits with something sweet that included Christmas songs and games.
In this time of Covid, we have sought to keep the tradition going. In 2020 and again in 2021, we offer the Feast of Love as a takeout dinner from the kitchen of Christ UM Church, just across the street from First UM Church. Individually packed meals can be picked up from the Education Wing’s front porch between 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM.
All those in need are invited to reserve your dinners by December 10th . Call First UM Church Office at 410-778-2977 or send an email to email@example.com.
Volunteers are needed to carve turkeys at 8:00 AM. About ten volunteers are needed at 9:30 AM to package food, distribute the meals, clean up, and deliver extra meals to seniors. Covid restrictions will be strictly followed. Anyone who wishes to volunteer should call or email the First UM Church Office with their name and contact information.
We hope to resume in-person Feast of Love on Christmas Day 2022.
